WINNIPEG —; The Saturday of the May long weekend is the official start of the 2016 St.Norbert Farmers’ Market.
Over 100 vendors are featured at the market offering everything from local food, crafts, plants and spices.
Executive Director Marilyn Firth says on the busiest day 130 vendors will be selling their local Manitoba products. This year in addition to the weekly Saturday market there is a Wednesday market that runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“As always it’s all local so everything you find at the market is either made, baked or grown here in Manitoba. It’s pretty much anything you can imagine and I always tell people expect more then you expect because there will be all kinds of produce, meat vendors, baked goods, and lots of prepared foods.” Firth explained.
On Wednesday’s new vendors to the market are on display.
Some of the items you can purchase this season include fresh vegetables and fruits, flowers, honey and beeswax candles eggs, soaps, lotions, and pottery.
Carly Minish is the owner of Smak Dab, one of the farmer market vendors.
“Basically the concept behind Smak Dab is that mustard is a really great pantry essential.” Minish explained.
Minish is taking part in her second year at St.Norbert Farmers’ Market.
” I think what people keep saying is they can’t believe how many cool things come out of Manitoba and a lot of people start out in the St.Norbert Farmers’ Market.”
The market is also expanding its services.
“We’ve done some work with the drainage on the site, we have new bathrooms, and our next project is new canopies at the market so we are still funding for that but we’re hoping 2017 that will happen and at that point we’re hoping to be able to have the winter market on our own site.” Firth explained.
The St.Norbert Farmers’ Market runs from May 21 until Halloween. The market opens Saturday’s at 8 a.m.
